CASE CHARACTERISTICS Acute respiratory distress syndrome in an infant due to accidental aspiration of baby oil massage. INTERVENTION Large volume bronchoalveolar lavage. OUTCOME Gradual recovery over a period of 5 months. MESSAGE Aspiration of lipids cause prolonged and refractory hypoxemia.
